"You can't handle the truth!!"
How many remember that line from A Few Good Men?
It was delivered by the character Jessep, played by ultra sexy Jack Nicholson to the young, goodlooking, Kalfee played by Tom Cruise. And it was the defining moment in the movie. It turned into THE tag line of it. It's the one phrase everyone says when you mention the movie.
He's explains to Tom Cruise's character that deep down he knows the truth but instead of facing it, he just goes about living his life as usual.
I know many people who are the same way. They can't handle the truth. They KNOW the truth deep down, but they turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to it. They don't WANT to face it. They want things to be status quo in their lives, nothing disrupted. Instead of facing it all and placing blame where it should go, they want to live in some kind of "let's pretend it's alright" world. Instead of facing the real facts of what is taking place, they choose to bury their heads in the sand. That way, they don't have to face the fact that they were fooled by someone in whom they put all of their trust and they got taken for a ride. God forbid, they would ever have to admit that because they are afraid it would make them feel stupid.
Why do people stay in denial about things? Because for some reason, they can't handle the truth. It either hurts too much or it makes them feel like they were played for a fool. I've seen women go back time after time to a man who cheats on them, because they would rather stay in denial than face the fact that he doesn't love them. So they make a fool of themselves over and over, rather than just face the truth, once and for all, and move on. Why? Because they can't handle the truth. The truth hurts.
I watched an entire town turn on someone and place one hundred percent blame on that person who was only fifty percent guilty of something. That person bore the weight of it all, and the other guilty party seemingly got off scot-free. Do you know why that happened? Because the members of the community couldn't handle the fact that the one person they felt could do no wrong, ended up being a liar and committing an act that would cause devastation among hundreds, if not thousands of people.
I watched as they tried to quickly "talk" that person back into the former position they held, thinking that if this person went back, it would make it all okay, and they could forget about what happened. So the person did exactly what the townspeople wanted. The person took their position in society back and became who the others "thought" they were all along. And it worked for a while, until some of the people a few years later finally saw this person for what they really were. There are still those who need a scapegoat to blame instead of putting it all where it belongs, and so they blame this person's co-conspiritor mostly. That takes the blame of being stupid and falling for the perpetrator's lies off of them and makes them all feel better about themselves.
BUT, there are those who don't allow pride to get in the way. They want to know the truth, and they are the ones who CAN handle the truth. So they now see the person for who that one really is.
You will always have those who want the truth, because they want to live honest lives. But you will also always have those who can't handle the truth and choose to bury their heads.
I recently heard about someone whose teenage daughter was doing things she shouldn't be doing, taking drugs, sleeping around, etc. My friend went to her mother and started a conversation with her with love, trying to help them. The mother literally covered her ears and said "I don't want to know! I don't want to know!"
Do you know why she did that? If she doesn't know, she won't have to deal with it. She won't have to try to figure out a plan and she can go on pretending everything is okay.
That seems to be the mentality of the folks I was telling you about. They don't want to deal with anything. They just want everything to be hunky dorey in their little mindless lives, pretending that we are all okay.
You can live your life that way if you choose. It's up to you. It's not against the law if you don't want to know the truth, but it does show your intelligence level and how much strength you have as a person.
These are MY thoughts today as I sit here working. It may not be the most popular blog post, but it is MY blog after all. LOL I love you all.
It's time to get real people. Face the truth and move on.
Remember to work hard and Dream Big!!
Much love,
Christy
