David And The Butterfly!!

Good Monday morning!! I hope you're all having a great day so far! I am, thanks to God and all of His blessings in my life. I woke up with a grateful mindset and I intend on keeping it all day!!

As I listened to my friend preach yesterday, and while talking with her this morning, she was explaining some things about David and his appearance. She went in depth, of course, about how his father never even brought him out to be looked at by Samuel when God was choosing a king, because he was of small stature and ruddy. His father, Jesse only saw a young man who tended the sheep, probably dirty and stinky and not at all what mankind would consider to be king material. In his father's mind, he was no more than the sheep herder and his youngest son, who was smaller than the others. It seems he didn't make much of an impression on his own dad, so he just assumed that he wouldn't mean much to Samuel either.

But God told Samuel to "not look on the countenence or the outward appearance" because God sees the heart of a man.

I thought about that young man and how he appeared to be one way on the outside when on the inside of him was a king! A man after God's own heart.

So after that, as the story unfolds, there is a transformation that takes place in David's life to bring him from being a sheep herder to being a KING.

It reminds me of the same thing that happens to a caterpillar when he transforms into a butterfly.

To look at the caterpillar, you can't help but think it's ugly. I mean, come on, it's a fat worm. LOL. It's not the ugliest creature on earth but it's certainly nothing to look at. But that caterpillar isn't finished yet. He is not yet what God intended him to be. A caterpillar is an amazing insect. He completely changes himself from one thing to another!! His whole entire being, and body undergoes a transformation. Like David, he starts out small and maybe not the best thing to look at, but inside of him is something more, something beautiful, something very much needed on our planet and in our lives. Butterflies aren't just beautiful creatures that we enjoy, they are extremely useful in pollination and keeping our ecosystem in tact.

David went from being a dirty, dusty sheep herder to being the King of Israel. I bet none of his family nor his friends and neighbors ever imagined such a thing for him. Just like the caterpillar, he's not really pretty to look at. And the caterpillar can't do much except lay on a leaf and eat it. But one day, when his time comes, he goes to a place and separates himself from the others. He begins to shed his skin, the old skin that he wore around town. (Now, bear in mind, that the caterpillar has already shed it's skin a few times in his life, but it's only after he sheds it the LAST time that he becomes what he's called to be.)

He wiggles and wiggles to free himself from that old skin, which takes a while, (he doesn't just jump out of it and instantly become a butterfly). So after he is free from the skin, a pupa has formed around him. The pupa is a protective covering that keeps the butterfly from harm and from being destroyed during it's final change (Holy Spirit).

After an alloted amount of time, the caterpillar starts to break free from the shell-like place where it was undergoing his metamorphosis. Only he's not a caterpillar anymore, he has been completely changed into what God wants him to be in that next phase of his life. He is a butterfly!! And he is beautiful. His wings start out small but over the next couple of hours, fluid is pumped into them and they expand and become the large wings that he needs to carry him throughout the remainder of his life, doing what he was created to do!!

I love that!!

There are so many times that, like David and the caterpillar, people are written off as useless by others around them. They are deemed "not God material". Or some feel they can't be used because they are not anything to look at on the outside. Maybe like the caterpillar, they don't capture the attention of a crowd the same way a brightly colored butterfly does. But like David and the caterpillar, God sees what they can BECOME, instead of what they are at the time.

Don't be so quick to write off people just because YOU feel they can't be used of God. Don't be so quick to judge anyone because of what they look like or who they are at the time. God can transform even the ugliest creature into someone He can use to do His will. And be careful of the ones who "look like" they can do the job. They may be all about outward appearances and have nothing substantial inside.

When you look at me, you may see an ugly, fat caterpillar, but God sees the butterfly that He created me to be, and I'm trying my best to be pleasing to Him now. I want to do His will in my life, I want to be who he wants me to become. I have undergone some changes lately, but I know there are many more to come, and when He is finished with me, you'll see someone that has went through a complete metamorphosis. God is so good to me.

Remember to work hard and Dream Big!!

Much love,

Christy
