Who Is She?

She had no idea who she was,
so she became who each person wanted her to be
expected her to be,
and told her she was.
She had lost her identity at an early age
because of things beyond her control.
Abandoned, alone,
she was lost and upside down.
The one who should have cared
who should have loved her the most
couldn't-
because she required more attention
than could be given to the child,
leaving the six year old alone in the noise
lost in the tornado of pain
that surrounded the household.
It seemed to scoop up the ones who
should have been there for her and the sister.
She was a yet a baby in a grown up's world
without guidance, without a light.
She wandered for years in the dark
trying to find herself.
Only to become who
"they" said she was.
Each one who labeled her
presented her with a mask to wear.
Each one had something different
they needed her to be.
So she wore them,
with shame and heartache.
But when she was alone,
the masks came off
and she was just a girl who was still lost.
A blank space,
a dark hole
Empty.
Until one day when she met the ONE
who show her the picture of who
she really was.
He presented to her who she could be
through Him
She smiled and relief flooded her soul
The tears flowed not only from her eyes
but from her heart as well.
She reached for Him and emptied herself of the pain
as He held her and healed her
She finally felt safe.
Safe as He held her tightly
and told her who she really is.
He told her that she is His child
and His friend
That she is a new person with a new life
and an incredible work of art
That she is forgiven
and alive.
That she is a messenger to the world
by her witness.
That she is the salt of the earth
and a disciple maker.
But most of all that she is loved!
And always had been
even though she couldn't see it.
She smiled at Him
and looked around her.
Where were the masks she had received
from the others in her life?
They were gone.
His Words had destroyed them,
one by one.
She looked into the eyes of Love
and vowed her heart to Him.
And she knew that her life had changed
at that very moment,
When the masks disappeared.
